Visualising global maritime industry challenges, across infographics, illustration and materiality.
context
The Global Maritime Forum is the annual gathering of stakeholders across the global maritime industry, bringing together decision-makers to assess more sustainable alternatives to current practices, identify challenges, and drive new initiatives.
Working within the Housatonic studio team, I contributed to the full set of communication materials produced before, during, and after the event — including the Global Maritime Issues Monitor, an annual publication presenting survey results on key issues facing the industry.
Across the years, we developed a visual language that could evolve while always being recognisable.
Approach and solution
The brief called for making a fairly technical publication approachable and engaging, that we achieved developing a layout with impactful custom typography and illustration.
Semi-transparent pages were used throughout to introduce each data section with simple, high-impact cues before revealing the full charts — turning dense survey data into something that reads clearly at a glance.
A special attention has been given to the format of the publication and its physicality: one year, the document was Singer-sewn with a red thread. The next year, a metallic red wire-o binding was chosen. A (literal) read thread from one year to the another.
